Bone cancer

A spiteful tumor of the bone is known as bone cancer and it impedes the healthy progress of normal bone tissues. Not all tumors are cancerous, rather benign (non cancerous) tumors are more common than malignant (cancerous) ones. Primary bone cancer that arises in the bone is not the same disease as the secondary bone cancer that spreads to the bone from another part of the body. bone-cancerPrimary bone cancer is rarely life-threatening and it does not spread or destroy bone tissue where the secondary bone cancer is opposite. The most common type of bone cancer is Osteosarcoma, which develops in new tissue in growing bones whereas, Chondrosarcoma (another kind of bone cancer), arises in cartilage. The children with hereditary retinoblastoma (an uncommon cancer of the eye) are at a higher risk of developing Osteosarcoma. Chondrosarcoma is found mainly in adults. This type of tumor forms in cartilage, the rubbery tissue around joints.

Besides the pain, some symptoms may vary depending on the location and size of the bone cancer which are- swelling or tenderness in the affected area, weak bones that occasionally lead to fracture, interfere with normal movements, fatigue, fever, weight loss, and anemia.

Curative procedure of bone cancer is performed depending on the type, size, location, and stage of the cancer, as well as the person's age and general health. The cure of bone cancer is done through various procedures such as surgery, chemotherapy (using of anticancer drugs), radiation therapy (using of high energy X-rays to destroy the cancerous cells) and cryosurgery (using the liquid nitrogen to freeze and destroy cancerous cells). Surgeon usually performs a needle biopsy or a biopsy through incision. In needle biopsy procedure, the surgeon makes a small hole in the bone and takes out a sample of tissue from the tumor with a needle-like tool. In biopsy through incision, the surgeon makes incision into the tumor and removes a sample of tissue. Treatment through surgery of bone cancer may include excisions, limb-sparing surgery or amputation, joint replacements, reconstructive surgery, palliative surgery to relieve bone pain, and more.

Patients that undergo bone cancer surgery can take 3-4 months to recover. After the surgery or treatment, patients get a healthy bone tissue to carry their normal daily activity without any hurdle.
