Lung Cancer
In clinical language, when the cells of lung area grow abnormally & uncontrollably and form tumors then it is called a lung cancer. As the other cancer, lung cancer has also benign and malignant tumor & when the word "cancer" is used then it refers to those tumors that are considered malignant. Lung cancer is a very life-threatening disease and one of the most difficult cancers to treat.
As the lung conducts a crucial function in human body through exchange of gases between the air we breathe and the blood. Carbon dioxide is removed from the bloodstream and oxygen from inspired air enters the bloodstream through the lung. Formation of tumor in the lung can damage entire functionally of the lung and it often can be life threatening.
The causes which may increase the risk and threat of liver cancer are- smoking tobacco or by indirect exposure to tobacco, passive smoking, breathing industrial chemicals such as asbestos, arsenic and polycyclic hydrocarbons, espouser to natural radioactive gas such as radon gas, lung diseases, air pollution, prior history of lung cancer, excessive alcohol use. Early liver cancer does not show any symptoms but as the cancer take form in advance stage, it reflects some symptoms like- difficulty in breathing, coughing up blood, chest pain, loss of appetite, sudden weight loss, general fatigue, repeated pneumonia or bronchitis, swelling of the neck and face, constant chest pain, loss of appetite, a hoarse voice, fever, pain in joints or bones, general weakness. The two major types of lung cancer are non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancer (SCLC).
Oncologist or doctor stars treatment of liver cancer after the proper diagnosis through the various tools and techniques such as X-ray, bronchoscope, CT scan, liver ultrasound or bone scan, sputum cytology for examination of phlegm and Biopsy. Thereafter process of treatment depends up on the extent (stage) of the disease as well as age of patient, overall health and feelings. The most reliable method of treatment is surgery however some other curative procedures are-radiotherapy, chemotherapy, Targeted Therapies/Biologic Therapies, Photodynamic Therapy, Follow-up testing. Sometimes more than one method is performed in combined.
Surgery of removal of a cancerous lung or the lobe of a lung is a major procedure and it is advised for a patient to spend up to one week as an inpatient. Recovery time may take several weeks or even months. At the end, treatment of lung cancer does improve quality of life and a healthy physical fitness can be achieved.
