Blepharoplasty (upper/lower eyelid surgery)

Eyelid surgery or eye bag removal (scientifically also known as 'blepharoplasty') is a kind of cosmetic surgery is performed either when excess skin on the upper eyelid is disturbing peripheral vision in extreme cases, or for cosmetic reasons when the skin is wobbly but does not impair sight that makes your look older and more tired than you feel. This eye surgery can decrease wrinkles formed around the eyelids, and make proper drooping of the upper lids. Blepharoplasty is popular among East Asians who, for genetic reasons, are missing an upper eyelid pleat more often. Hence the Surgery makes an artificial crease directly above the eye which gives a more appropriate facial appearance. It does not erase evidence of your ethnic or heritage of racial heredity. Surgery is performed under local anesthetic and it begins by creating small incisions along the natural creases of the upper eyelid, and/or straight under the lower eyelashes. After the incision is made, the surgeon detaches the skin from the fat and muscles beneath it, removes superfluous tissue, and puts a gentle suture. After the completion of surgery the incisions are then made close by using very fine sutures. The scar on the surgery tends to fade away within three months, because of the eyelid's exceptional healing capacity. At the end of surgery, cream is applied on the eyelids and entire upset areas are bandaged. Eyes feel somewhat tight and sore, and medication may be prescribed to reduce some of the uneasiness. The head should be kept elevated for some days. Use of a cold compress can minimizes swelling and bruising. The process of surgery usually takes 1 to 2 hours.

The major swelling and bruises disappears within a week. Make-up prescribed by medical consultant can be worn 10 days after the surgery, and it is advised to go out with sun glasses on within 5-7 days. The stitches are removed after the one week of eyelid lift surgery. It is advised to those who are planning for blepharoplasty that don't use any pharmaceuticals containing acetylsalicylic acid like-Acylpirin, Aspirin, Anopyrin etc. 3 weeks before the surgery. You are also advised to stop smoking or at least minimize consuming cigarettes as smoking makes ineffective the recovery process and it can also amplify the risk of complications.
