Breast Reduction
As breast augmentation was the surgery to achieve greater symmetry breast, in same manner breast reduction surgery (also known as reduction mammaplasty) is used to make it smaller by removing excess tissue and skin from the breasts. Through this procedure a surgeon removes glandular tissue and fat from the breast and also reduces the size of areola. Breast reduction surgery is offered to women having extremely large breasts, who wish to reduce the size for either cosmetic or their good health. In women, it gives very satisfactory solution by reducing her heavy and oversized breast. Surgery for breast reduction is also performed in men for the adjustment of Gynecomastia (rise of breast tissue in men). It has been observed by many women that excessive weight in the breasts can lead to respiratory problems as well as skeletal deformities and back pain. The breast reduction relieves chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain and usually solves these problems, as well as makes perfect balance of the size and shape of your breasts.
Breast reduction procedure usually involves an anchor-shaped incision that circles the areola, expands downstairs, and follows the natural bend of the crease beneath the breast.
Surgeon then removes excess glandular tissue, fat and skin, and moves the nipple and areola into the new pose. Skin from both sides is brought down around the areola for shaping the new curve of the breast. If the breasts are very large or pendulous, in that case the nipples and areolas may have to be completely removed and grafted into an upper position. This surgery does leave any mark or disfigurement, although they will naturally be concealed with your bra or bathing suit.
The procedure of this surgery usually takes around 2 to 4 hours where general anesthesia is always used to patients. Once the fat and excess tissues are removed from the breast, skin comes to the middle where it is rejoined. After the surgery, the affected areas are enfolded in surgical bandages for a few days. Patients are advised to wear a surgical bra for few weeks afterwards. The stitches can be removed after 2 or 3 weeks. As the breasts swell after the surgery, some nipple sensitivity may be lost and random shooting pain is normal for the first few weeks. Any exhausting physical movement should be avoided for a few weeks after the procedure. You are prescribed to eat a nutritious diet and stop smoking at least 2 weeks prior to Breast Reduction surgery and also stop eating or drinking anything at least 12 hours prior to the surgery.
