Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion is a cosmetic medical procedure that is used to make smooth crease and scars left by acne, accidents, burns or previous surgery. It restructures and makes smooth the top layers of the skin to give an attractive appearance. Dermabrasion can be performed over the complete surface of the face or on small regions and may be done in combination with other cosmetic procedures such as a facelift or face peel. As chemical peels acts, in same manner dermabration also removes the outer layers. The dissimilarity is that while chemical peeling is being spread all over the surface, dermabration is applied to exact particular areas therefore better control on the depth of infiltration is achieved. This process injures or wounds the skin and causes it to bleed. As the wound heals, new skin grows to replace the damaged skin that was removed during dermabrasion. In consequence patients get much better layer of skin in comparison to earlier that makes them more confident and self-esteemed. Indeed dermabrasion is used most often to improve the overall appearance which is damaged due to some reasons.
The procedure of dermabration is done by using a brush made of wire or a wheel attachment of diamond with edges that are rough. The brush removes the skin layers on the top part as the wheel or brush rapidly spins, leveling and removing the skins layers on the upper part. Skin becomes injured during this procedure and does bleed. This is not an unexpected occurrence rather it is supposed to happen. As the wound starts to heal, the skin that is fresh and new replaces the old skin that was damaged and removed by the dermabrasion.
The treatment is done by using general anesthesia. Procedure usually takes 1-2 hours depending on the area involved for treatment. The curative process usually depends on patient's age, skin color and type, as well as other medical conditions. Initially skin will be reddish and swollen after the dermabrasion treatment but it disappears within a few days. It takes 2-3 months to see the final result.
