Mastopexy (Breast uplift)
Breast uplift surgery, technically known as mastropexy in the medical world, is a procedure to get better breasts that are sagging and appear to have lost volume in the upper pole of the breast. It is believed that factors like- pregnancy, nursing and the force of gravity can affect on a woman's appearance. The nature of skin is like elastic and breasts often lose their shape and firmness, and begin to sag as skin loses its elasticity. Breast lift surgery therefore aims to return the shape of breast to its original pose. Procedure includes the use of an implant in order to lift the size of the breast, otherwise known as a breast augmentation.
Various kinds of shapes can be achieved through the breast uplift surgery. Through the surgery a surgeon manipulates the skin and connective tissues around the breast. Size of areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple) can also be reduce through the breast lift surgery. In result tighter cone appears on breast and your nipple is moved to a higher position to give you a more youthful look. Definitely this procedure gives women more firm look and greatly improves their self-confidence. The procedure of surgery involves three incisions that form an anchor shape extending from the nipple and areola. The surgeon then trims away excess skin, lift breast tissues and stitches it into the elevated position. Usually, the nipple and areola must be repositioned and sutured in place. After the successful surgery, women find that they no longer need to wear a bra to feel comfortable and look vigorous in their clothes.
Breast lift surgery generally falls into two categories:
•The concentric (or doughnut) mastopexy for women having smaller and less weary breasts
•The more common anchor-shaped mastopexy.
The incision for this surgery varies, depending on the degree of sagging of the breast and the extent of loose skin around it. Sometimes breast augmentation is performed along with breast lift operation but procedures are one of the most difficult combinations to perform together. To reduce the risk of complications, surgeons prefer to perform the procedure separately.
The surgery of breast lift operation is performed under general anesthesia and it may require up to two hours or more. Patients can usually return back to work and participate in most everyday routine life within a few days, unless a breast augmentation is performed at the same time. Risks related with breast lifts can be reduced when pre and post operative instructions given by the surgeon are followed by the patient.
