Otoplasty (Ear Pinning surgery)

Otoplasty (Ear Pinning surgery)Ear pining surgery is broadly known as 'Otoplasty' in the medicinal world of cosmetic surgery. It is generally performed on children (between the ages of 4 and 14) as well as on adult to reshape the ears that are large or prominent farther back towards the scalp. In many cases, children who have large ears suffer from ridicule, low audible range in school, and feel extreme anxiety and embarrassment. This procedure does not affect individual's hearing; rather it involves only the outer ear, not the inner ear where hearing takes place. Due to some weakness in the cartilage of the upper ear lobe, the incident of lop ears take place. With lop ears, the upper part of the ear falls down instead of lying near to the head. Some patients have both a bulky and large cartilage bowl as well as defect of the cartilage. Cure is surgical repair (otoplasty) of the deformed cartilage. In short an otoplasty is a surgery to make perfect of prominent or floppy ears that create the ears in better natural proportion to your head.

Otoplasty (Ear Pinning surgery)The process of surgery begins with a consultation of a cosmetic surgeon and operation is performed by using general anesthesia. The ear pining surgery is comparatively simple operation in comparison to nose surgery or breast augmentation. Marks are made prior to the incision to prepare a structure and base of cutting closer to the head. Then incisions are made on these markings and the skin and cartilage removed or molded. The surgeon sculpts the cartilage and bends it back towards the head. Non detachable stitches may be used to help in maintaining the new shape. The patient is then sutured closed and dressed with a head dressing that must keep on for 1-10 days. The bandage can then be removed and the new ears examined. Patient can resume all sports after 5 weeks.

The surgery usually takes 2 to 3 hours and you must wear a bandage for the first 6-7 days. Pain can be experienced during first 2-3 days. It is recommended to stay overnight under the observation of doctor until all the effects of general anesthesia wear off. Don't wear eyeglasses for the first two weeks after surgery as it may rub on the incisions behind the ears. It is advised that don't do swimming and other underwater activities for two weeks after the surgery. It is also advised to the patient that you must avoid smoking or consuming any kind of alcoholic products. If you are a habitual smoker then you should avoid this surgery because primary and secondary smoking lessens blood flow to the body's tissues. This can result in lengthened wound healing, skin loss, infection, augmented scarring, and a number of other impediments.

Otoplasty takes shortest recuperation time in comparison to any plastic surgery procedure. The positive result will be immediately visible after the surgery, when the bandages are removed. It is very important that patients closely follow their surgeon's prescribed way of post surgery care and not tamper with or remove bandages before the surgeon allows.
