Scar Revision

Scar Revision Scar revision surgical technique is a procedure that is done to partially remove scar tissue to make the scar(s) less noticeable. It also reinstates function, and corrects skin changes (defacement) caused by an injury, wound, or previous surgery. The exact procedure is performed depending on the type of scar, its reason, location, size and the characteristics of the patient's skin. The surgery is not only performed to improve the appearance of the patient's look or other body part, but it is also done to restore or improve functioning when the formation of a scar impedes with the movement of muscles and joints. Scar revision surgical procedure may be considered as either a cosmetic or a reconstructive surgery, depending on whether the patient's concern is related to appearance or whether it has also affected functioning of body movements.

It depends upon the surgeon after analyzing the scars that which technique is most suitable to remove the particular scars.

Scar Revision Surgeon re-positions a scar through the incision to match with natural facial contours and lines, making the scar less visible. For this a surgeon usually applies a scar revision technique known as z-plasty. This involves the surgeon removing the scar tissue and then cutting the skin to create triangular flaps at both ends.

Surgical procedure usually takes 1-3 hours to complete, but it varies depending upon the amount of work required. Some initial swelling and bruising may be experienced around the area where surgery is made, but this will steadily subside. It may take 4 days to 3 weeks in recovery and thereafter patient can return back to normal daily activities. Scar revision surgical procedure is not made to get rid of your scar, rather it helps to hide it and improve its overall appearance.
