Split Earlobe Repair

Split earlobe is a division of skin from the point of piercing down through the base of the ear lobe. As heavy ear-ring has been used since years, the holes stretch in ear piercing and occasionally result in a tear of the earlobe. Split ear lobe repair procedure takes 1-2 hours and it can vary depending on several factors including the nature and amount of trauma, wound status and individual complexities of each person's ear lobe. In all methods, the skin lining the slot is removed creating a raw edge to rebuild. When tissue has been vanished, however, the procedure is more complicated, and reconstruction involves creating normal proportions around a somewhat small ear.

Sutures are removed after 1-2 weeks of the repair procedure. A thin layer of antibiotic ointment is the only dressing applied in most cases. Patients are required to wait six months after surgery before wearing earrings. Patient can resume normal activities after a few days.

After the repairing procedure patients should wash the ear three times in a day and apply a dressing of antibiotic ointment in order to diminish the risk of an infection. Patients can shampoo their hair however they should avoid using a hair dryer for the first 3-4 days of surgery.
