Brain Surgery

Brain surgery is a kind of surgical treatment which falls under a surgical procedure i.e. neurosurgery. Since the brain is the foremost important part of the nervous system, so neurosurgery is the surgical procedure that treats & attempts to remedy a problem of the nervous system. Brain SurgeryIn simplest term, the brain surgery is the most complicated type of neurosurgery. Many times nerve is severed due to an accident or surgical accident and in consequence loss of sensation or even paralysis occurs. This directly or indirectly makes victim to brain.

Some causes (brain related problems) that may require immediate attention for brain surgery are such as- stroke brain attack, aneurysms of the brain, arteriovenous malformations, cavernous angiomas, intracerebral hemorrhage, subdural hematomas, brain tumors (malignant), adult brain tumors, children's brain tumors, ependymoma, glioblastoma multiforme, malignant astrocytoma, medulloblastoma, brain tumors (benign), acoustic neuroma, astrocytoma, meningioma, pineal tumors, pituitary tumors, blood clots, weaknesses in blood vessels, damage to brain tissues, and brain infection. Because the brain controls and manages conscious and unconscious body functions, as well as vital roles such as memory, learning and thinking so any kind of damage or wrong alteration requires brain surgery (neurosurgery) to diagnose and cure of these problems. Depending on the type and severity of the condition, some basic symptoms that may experience as an alarm of brain surgery are such as headache, nausea, vomiting drowsiness and seizures. If the concern cause and disease is untreated then it may hamper brain's ability and ultimately can be life threatening.

Brain Surgery

Some diagnostic tools are used prior to the surgery such as physical examination, study of medical history, CT scan and MRI scan, for the better surgical treatment. Surgery of brain is performed under general anesthesia. Initially the hair on the scalp is shaved. Neurosurgeon performs surgery by making an incision on the scalp over the area where the brain injury is thought to lie. A hole is then cut into the skull in order to access the brain. This is needed to repair any ruptured blood vessels and to remove the blood clot or growth. After the operation is finished, the piece of bone that was removed is replaced, the muscle and skin are stitched up and a drain is placed inside the brain to remove any excess blood left from the surgery.

Surgery of brain usually takes about 4-5 hours and 7-8 days stay in hospital is required after the surgery. Patient gets a very healthy brain function after a few weeks of the surgery.
